Happy Valley has been awarded Best Long Form TV Drama by the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, from a shortlist including the likes of Line of Duty and Peaky Blinders.
Sally Wainwright received the award at a ceremony hosted by Sandi Toksvig at RIBA, London last night.
“Writers are too often the unsung heroes of all forms of entertainment and how great to sing their praises this evening,” said Toksvig.
Sally also presented Kay Mellor with the awards for Outstanding Contribution to Writing, describing her as “the prolific talent behind some of the most powerful, engaging and successful British television dramas of the last 20 years.”
Presenters of individual awards included writer Caitlin Moran, actress Louise Jameson, comedian Nick Revell and writer-director Sally El Hosaini.
