Life-long friends Shane Gulliver (McNulty) and Mark "Treacle" Tate (Kearns) are both eighteen-year-old privates serving in Basra in 2003. The Mark of Cain follows these young men as they experience the reality of soldiering for the first time and are permanently affected by what they see and do.
