Happy Valley series 2

BBC One has commissioned a second series of Sally Wainwright’s critically acclaimed drama Happy Valley. Starring Sarah Lancashire, the first series was a ratings hit, attracting a weekly consolidated audience of almost 8 million and an average overnight audience of 5.5 million.

RED Production Company founder and executive producer Nicola Shindler says: “Sally created a truly magnificent series with very real, complex characters, an engaging plot and breathtaking storyline. I am delighted that we will be able to delve deeper into Catherine’s world in series two.”

The second series will go into production in 2015.

Meanwhile, the first series of Happy Valley will make its US and Canadian debut exclusively on Netflix, the world’s leading Internet TV network. “We’re proud to add this highly lauded, masterfully crafted and brilliantly acted British series to the exclusive offerings Netflix viewers in the U.S. and Canada can enjoy,” says Elizabeth Bradley, content acquisition VP for Netflix.  “Already recognized as one of the top dramas of 2014, ‘Happy Valley,’ is sure to keep our viewers on the edge of their seats.”
